Catalonia has banned bullfighting (since 2010). Though it doesn't ban bull running in the streets.
MEP's have majority-voted to ban CAP subsidies to farms who use raise bulls for fighting but had to admit policy was "unexecutable" until CAP more widely amended. So the policy vote, while recorded, is pointless as EU cannot agree on wide CAP reform.
CAP subsidies no longer depend on what is grown. Just hectarage of land. Coincidence? Tobacco growing is back on the up in Greece. Its farms, mostly run by Philip Morris, can again get subsidies for land growing tobacco. Don't know if it's risen again in Poland.
My hysterical conclusion is that the EU is subsidising the death of its own people. Carry on.

I've reconsidered my opinion. I've no problem with blood sports. As long as no weapons are involved. Bull fighting, hunting (lions etc) if you go hand to hand, that's fine.

Thing is I'm pretty sure these cattle are breed for fighting... Toro Bulls IIRC.... they get 3 or 4 years living the life of riley before entering the gladitorial ring... to be fair... If I was born a Bovine and got my choice of being electrocuted for a nice prime rib or entering a ring with a chance to gore a few spanish fuckers I know what I'd prefer,,,

The bull would have been killed anyway, quite horribly, and because of this its mum got killed as well to end the lineage.

Surely if the bull kills the matador, which apparently happens incredibly rarely, then it definitely won the fight, and should at the very least get to live out its life comfortably - if not as a local Spanish celebrity.
